STORIES – 2nd Assignment

catherinehartman

“OLD PINE”

Ben Howard

PART 1

On this song, Ben Howard describes the memories he had when he was young and free. He reminds this moments with melancholy, since almost on every verse he makes a reference on how happy he was.

The introduction is the most descriptive part. We can see that  is summer, and that he and his friends were on a sunny beach far from home where they were camping. On the chorus, he makes a reference on how happy he was at that moment with his friends, enjoying every second without a care in the world. On the last part of the song he leads me to understand that on that part of his life he grew a lot as a person, learning different thing everyday, just being happy.

We stood
Steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones
As the old pine fell we sang
Just to bless the morning.

  1. Neko says:

I like the idea of image inside of the image, although it all feels a bit too flat, with the abrupt wall in our face just behind the photo. Maybe to deepen the perspective, what we see behind the photo could be a sparse room interior, that you would quickly model in 3D. Sparse and dark is ok, to have its gloomy character contrasted with the bright, sunny landscape in the photo. Just suggestion to get more space into it, while also adding to the narrative (instead of just photo against the wall, we’re now introducing this contrast).
