Nice start. I would though suggest that playing with light and shadow is not necessary for this task, as you already have a very concrete objective and color/light/shadow situation that you must achieve – which is a reference photo.
Instead, I would suggest the following workflow:
    – Image size and proportion : you can’t even start without setting this correctly (which is not correct at the moment, read carefully the task)
    – Camera/view position: just make it exactly like in a reference photo
    – Sun position: again, reference photo already have its shadows. No need to experiment, just position the sun EXACTLY like in the reference photo.
    – Colors – absolutely the same comment as above. Get the colors right (it’s yellow, not orange, the green is less saturated, etc…)

Again, the point of this particular assignment is not to experiment with light, shapes, colors (we did that in previous exercises), but to create image that is exactly the same as the one you chose to copy. The reason for this task is: you need to be able to control the technique in order to be able to execute your own visions. If you (or other student) can’t make an exact copy of already existing images, you have very little chance of visualizing your ideas in future. Hope this clarifies the intention of the assignment and what is expected from you. Don’t hesitate to ask back if you are still not sure. Thanks! :)
